- The homeless are people suffering from severe mental
illness, unemployment, underemployment, divorce, domestic
violence, substance abuse, and physical developmental
disabilities.
- 83% of homless children served at Care Corps are raised
by single mothers.
- At least 60% of those served suffer from some form of
diagnosable mental illness.
- 25% of those served suffer from both a mental health and
substance abuse disorder.
- 54% of Care Corps clients are families (up from 42% two
years ago). Omaha demographics indicate that typically 11%
of homeless are families.
- Over 77% of Care Corps clients are from the Fremont area
(up two percent from last year).
- There are no age limitations (we have had babies from
one day old and adults up to 83 years of age).
- 20% of clients are children and most of them are under
the age of 12. Nationally, the average age of a homeless
person is 9 years old.
- 30% of Care Corps clients are disabled (up from 10% in
2006).
- 10% of Care Corps clients are veterans. Nationally, 23%
of veterans are homeless.
- 69% of Care Corps clients were employed upon discharge.
- 56% of our clients move directly from shelter to
permanent housing.
