History

Care Corps was founded in 1996 to provide a place of shelter, support, and stability for homeless individuals and homeless families by empowering them to achieve independence and lifelong enrichment. To accomplish that, Care Corps is the only agency within the neighboring six-county area offering 24-hour shelter to homeless men, women, and children.

Our mission of independence and lifelong enrichment is reflected in our requirement that our residents search for a job everyday. We know that almost 450 people are only one paycheck away from homelessness in Fremont and the surrounding area. The majority of our clients, more than 75%, are from the Greater Fremont Area.

Our mission is even more remarkable when you consider that the average age of a homeless person in the U.S. is only nine years old. Children make up almost one-third of the homeless population of Fremont. Since a homeless child is very likely to have been homeless more than once, childhood problems take on a new significance. 76% of homeless children will need to repeat their current grade in school and those that are old enough, are more likely to drop out of school continuing the cycle of dependence on the system.

Care Corps provides the means, opportunities, and training necessary to break this cycle and help people establish themselves once again as productive members of society.
