66 Year Old Woman
Success Story
A 66 year old female moved into Care Corps after her home became uninhabitable. She is not only elderly but also disabled physically and a diabetic. She had many needs but for the most part was able to maintain a degree of self-sufficiency in the facility.
Assisted living was discussed with her as an option upon leaving Care Corps due to her health concerns. She did not feel she was ready for that type of placement just yet. An elderly/disabled housing development in Arlington, NE was found, providing her the independence she desired with the support she needed. This 8 unit campus provided a one bedroom apartment on the main floor, wheelchair/handicapped accessible, with rent subsidy.
In addition, she was able to become Medicaid eligible through the purchase of 2 small insurance policies that reduced her countable income for Medicaid. This reduced her out of pocket medical expense by an average of $250/month, allowing her Social Security income to be used for other living expenses.
This young lady prided herself in being re-educated with skills provided by Care Corps staff and Life Skills classes. She was a renewed person financially, emotionally and mentally upon her discharge from Care Corps.
