SALLY GETS
CONTROL OF HER LIFE
Sally is a very sweet lady in her 60s. She
is both mentally and physically disabled and lives on a fixed
income. Unfortunately, Sallys daughter and her
boyfriend would coerce Holly into giving them the limited
amount of money that she did have from her social security.
They would tell her that they would help her, but then never
did.
Sally came to Care Corps when her Adult
Protection Safety worker rescued her from the abusive
situation she was in living with her daughter. Sallys
daughter was continually accessing Hollys money and trying
to control it. As a result, Sally was evicted because she did
not pay her rent because her daughter had taken her money.
Sally came to Care Corps shortly after the
first of the month and had no money to get her medication
which she desperately needed to stay healthy enough to take
care of herself. She met with Jessica, the Case Manager, and
was able to find assistance with filling her prescriptions.
Jessica also worked with Sally on finding a way to manage her
finances without interference from her daughter. Sally
enrolled in a payee program where an agency would be in charge
of her money and pay her bills so that her daughter did not
have access to her money.
Once Sally got her finances under control and
got back on her medications, it didnt take her long to find
a place to live and get back out on her own. Sally became a
volunteer at the shelter and also started speaking to others
seniors experiencing problems with family members. At each
presentation, Sally tells the group It is because of Care
Corps that I can help you today.
